El laboratori d’Immunologia està molt implicat en la recerca amb una perspectiva de col·laboració multidisciplinar i dimensió internacional. Les nostres línies d’investigació es poden englobar en:
- Anàlisi dels mecanismes de tolerància immunològica: El seu objectiu és identificar nous biomarcadors i abordatges terapèutics pel tractament de malalties autoimmunitàries com ara diabetis tipus 1, esclerosi múltiple o tiroidopaties autoimmunitàries. Per això, el grup ha implementat diversos models murins experimentals d’autoimmunitat en diabetis i esclerosi múltiple remitent-recurrent i crònica-progressiva, així com models experimentals in vitro. Aquesta investigació bàsica es realitza a les instalacions de la Fundació Institut d’ Investigació Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP), i en col·laboració de les plataformes de l’IGTP i d’investigadors de diversos països.
- Innovació en immunologia diagnòstica: El seu objectiu és trobar marcadors diagnòstics i de resposta a tractaments. Es treballa en la identificació de biomarcadors capaços d’identificar pacients responedors i no responedors a un tractament, mitjançant el seguiment immunològic de pacients que estan rebent tractaments immunomoduladors i immunosupresors. Així, es pot oferir a cada pacient el millor tractament disponible. Aquesta recerca es fa amb una estreta col·laboració amb diferents grups clínics de l’Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol i altres centres catalans i nacionals.

Immunoteràpia: Els avenços en l’estudi dels mecanismes d’inducció de tolerància immunològica han permés que els investigadors del servei d’Immunologia hagin estat pioners en el desenvolupament de noves teràpies per al tractament de malalties autoimmunitàries. Algunes d’aquestes estratègias han estat patentades i es treballa per poder aplicar-les en pacients en un futur pròxim. A més, s’ha desenvolupat un tractament amb cèl·lules dels propis pacients per tractar l’esclerosi múltiple que ja ha estat aprovat per la Agència Espanyola del Medicament (Eudra CT:2015-003541-26). Actualment, s’han inclòs els primers pacients en un assaig clínic multicèntric internacional coordinat pel nostre centre, i finançat majoritàriament per la Unió Europea (Programa Horitzó 2020).
- Clínica- epidemiològica: El seu objectiu és analitzar les dades obtingudes de la pràctica clínica i de la recerca. Gràcies a això, es poden implementar al Laboratori Clínic els millors algoritmes diagnòstics i les millors tecnologies disponibles pel diagnòstic dels nostres pacients. Aquesta recerca es fa en col.laboració amb consorcis i grups de treball nacionals i internacionals, i és d’importància cabdal per a la millora contínua del laboratori diagnòstic.
